Looking for a spooky-cool Halloween DIY that’s affordable and functional? This Dollar Tree skull tree hack is one of my favorite Halloween party ideas yet! With just a few inexpensive supplies, you can transform a simple stacking skeleton tree from Dollar Tree into a DIY wine dispenser—perfect for serving up drinks at your next Halloween party.
And since I like to keep things budget-friendly, I paired it with Aldi’s Winking Owl boxed wine. Cute, cheap, and creepy? Yes, please!

Supplies
- Dollar Tree stacking skeleton tree
- Black puffy paint
- Old rags or paper towels
- Paint brush
- X-Acto knife, craft blade, or drill bit
- Boxed wine (I used Aldi Winking Owl)
Step 1: Add Dimension with Paint
It might sound odd, but puffy paint works great on plastic because it dries with a texture that blends right in. Squeeze some onto the skull tree, then use a brush to work it into all the cracks and details.

Step 2: Wipe Away for a Weathered Look
While the paint is still wet, wipe the surface with a rag or paper towel. This leaves dark paint only in the cracks, making all those spooky details pop. Repeat for each section of the skull tree. For extra effect, I painted the bat topper solid black.

Step 3: Cut the Opening for the Wine Spout
Pop open the hole on your boxed wine and use it as a stencil to trace a circle on the bottom layer of the skull tree. Carefully cut it out with a knife or drill. Next, make a slit down to the base so you can slide the dispenser spout into place. Touch up any spots with black paint if needed.

Step 4: Insert the Wine Bag
Remove the wine bag from the box and place it inside the bottom layer of the skull tree. Gently guide the spout through the hole you created, adjusting slightly until it fits snugly.

Step 5: Assemble & Style
Add the remaining layers of the skull tree back on, adjust as needed, and you’ve got yourself a DIY skull wine dispenser that’s guaranteed to wow your guests.
