How to Make Leprechaun Surprise Bath Bombs with Dollar Tree Finds

I love finding unique treasures at Dollar Tree, especially when I can turn them into something fun like bath bombs. This week, I stumbled upon the cutest little leprechaun pots and gold coins, and I immediately knew what I had to do—make Leprechaun Surprise Bath Bombs!

These are perfect for St. Patrick’s Day gifts, a fun thing to leave in a leprechaun trap for kids, or even a festive treat for yourself. The best part? There’s a hidden rainbow inside!

How to Make Leprechaun Surprise Bath Bombs

Supplies:

Step 1: Make the Bath Bomb Mixture

We’re keeping it super simple with just two main dry ingredients. You can add a foaming agent like SLSA if you want the bath bombs to create bubbles. For this batch, I decided to leave it out. For basic bath bombs, I generally use 3 parts of baking soda to 1 part citric acid.

This recipe should fill a 5 pack of the plastic pots, with a little bit leftover.

  • 3 Cups Baking Soda
  • 1 Cup Citric Acid

Add the baking soda and citric acid to a large bowl breaking up any clumps and mix well.

Mixing Bath Bomb Ingredients

Now, it’s time to add some fragrance. I’m using a Fruit Loops scent—it smells exactly like the cereal. Just a few large drops will do- use as much or as little as you like. Stir it all together.

Step 2: Create the Rainbow Surprise

Add about 1/3 of a cup of the mixture into each of the 6 small bowls and set the remaining white mixture aside. Now, let’s add some color:

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Purple

I prefer bath bomb colorants over mica powder because they won’t leave a ring around your tub.

Once your colors are mixed, lightly spritz each with either 91% isopropyl alcohol or witch hazel, then smash them together until they hold their shape. Be careful not to over-wet them, or they’ll start to fizz.

Now, layer each color on a piece of parchment or freezer paper, pressing them down firmly, obe on top of the other to form a bath bomb rainbow cake. This is kind of tricky, just do your best to smoosh the layers together. It does not have to be perfect. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to harden slightly.

Once set, but not hard, cut the rainbow cake into slices, then into small cubes. If any pieces crumble, no worries—just press them back together.

Step 3: Assemble the Bath Bombs

With clean gloves on, start spritzing the white mixture with alcohol or witch hazel and stir until it holds together.

Now, grab your leprechaun pots. Press a little of the white mixture into the bottom of the pot.

Add a rainbow cube right in the center.

Fill the rest of the pot with more white mixture, pressing down firmly.

Top it off with a gold coin and then let them sit for a while to harden.

Step 4: Add the Golden Touch

Once they have hardened, brush off any remaining powder. And then, to give them that magical leprechaun glow, you can either:

  • Sprinkle gold mica over the top
  • Mix one teaspoon of alcohol with a little gold mica and paint the tops for a shiny finish

Let them dry completely, and you’ve just made Leprechaun Surprise Bath Bombs!

The Magic Moment

When these bath bombs hit the water, the white outer layer fizzes away, revealing a foamy, colorful rainbow surprise. It’s pure St. Patrick’s Day magic.
